Research and Development

The area also boasts an unrivalled range of R&D expertise. Both Sheffield universities have excellent research credentials in engineering and materials, plus there are independent research organisations including: the AMRC with Boeing, Casting Technology International (Cti), TWI?s Yorkshire Technology Centre, Corus? Swinden Technology Centre, Glass Technology Services and the NAMTEC, the National Metals Technology Centre.

Supply Chain

The Sheffield region?s manufacturing and engineering heritage means that there is a ready-made supply chain for AMM companies. From the production and supply of metals and composite materials, to expertise in contract machining, joining, fabricating etc, and component supplies, virtually everything you need is readily available. Skilled Workforce

Again the Sheffield region?s history of advanced engineering has led to the development of a skilled and experienced workforce. This workforce is supplemented annually by the engineering graduates of the Sheffield universities and the FE/HE colleges in the area.

Location

The Sheffield region is an excellent location, situated in the middle of the UK. It incorporates the areas of Barnsley, Doncaster, Rotherham and Sheffield, and offers excellent access to the remainder of the UK?s mainline rail and motorway networks. There are five international airports within a 90-minute drive of the region, including Doncaster- Sheffield Robin Hood Airport, Manchester International Airport, Nottingham East Midlands Airport, Leeds- Bradford Airport, and Humberside Airport. The east coast deepwater ports on the Humber are only 50 miles away.
