The threat posed by communicable diseases to the health and economic prosperity of the United Kingdom remains a high political priority, especially in times of economic adversity.

To address this issue, the Technology Strategy Board (TSB) in conjunction with the Department of Health (DoH) will, on January 18th 2010 launch a competition to support the development of diagnostic devices that are clinically useful and commercially viable, to counter the impact of infectious agents in humans and animals.
Dr Penny Wilson from the TSB will take us through the scope of this prospective call, along with two guest speakers to share their experiences of the challenges and successes involved in forming consortia, applying for funding and engaging in collaborative projects in the area of infectious disease diagnostics.
