Our aim at ELTC is to make your stay with us as useful and enjoyable as possible. Whether you want to study English for a few weeks or a year, for academic, general or business purposes, we offer you a structured programme of study, extensive learning resources, excellent opportunities for leisure activities and comfortable accommodation.

ELTC is part of the University of Sheffield which is situated a short distance from Sheffield city centre, in the heart of Britain. Sheffield is a friendly city, with an excellent safety record, so you will feel very welcome here. It has many cultural and sports facilities, and is close to the Peak District National Park, which is ideal for outdoor activities. Transport in and around the city is good, and you can visit many places, from small country villages to cities such as York, Leeds and Manchester.

The University of Sheffield

The University of Sheffield is one of the UK's largest universities with 8 faculties and over 80 academic departments welcoming 24,000 students. The University attracts over 2,500 overseas students each year from 118 countries. It has an excellent reputation for both teaching and research activities. It was named The Sunday Times UK University of the Year 2001-2002.

English Language Courses at ELTC

You can select from a range of English courses taught by our qualified and experienced teachers. We specialise in Academic English and in Business English, including pre- MBA, and we offer these courses throughout the year. We also offer General English in the summer. Our courses are ideal for students who are intending to study at UK university but who need to improve their English first.

Learning Resources

Students have fully guided access to ELTC's own learning resources and can also use the excellent resources and facilities of the University, including IT resources, Library and the University's Information Commons.


Depending on the course you choose, you can select homestay or University residential accommodation.

Free time

We provide organised leisure activities and you can also enjoy the University's many social activities, sports facilities and entertainments which are usually offered at a low price.
